Russia's national domain RU passed 2 million registered names, a gift for Runet's 15th anniversary. In 2008 registrations rose 64 percent, and RU is second in growth after China's CN.
The Russian national domain RU has surpassed the symbolic mark of 2 million registered names. This event became a kind of birthday gift for Runet: on April 7, the RU domain will turn 15 years old. It was from that moment that the corresponding record has been included in the international database of national top-level domains.Previously, registration of the two-millionth domain was expected only by mid-spring. Such a forecast was made by analysts at the beginning of 2009, taking into account the overall decline in the number of domain registrations caused by the crisis. Nevertheless, today the growth rate of the Russian ru domain remains among the highest in the world: the volume of domain registrations increased by 64% in 2008, and in terms of growth rate, the ru domain ranks second in the world after the Chinese cn domain.
Interestingly, the ru domain reached its first million users on September 17, 2007. Runet took 13 years to reach that date. It took Runet only a year and a half to reach the two-million mark.
