After the election of the new rector Alexander Sukhodolov, personnel changes began at BSUEP, the posts of three vice rectors and the scientific director held by former rector Mikhail Vinokurov were cut. Expert Sergei Schmidt sees this as an attempt by the new leadership to get rid of the predecessors team and gain full independence. The rector promised to restore the post of scientific director of the university.

A plot is unfolding at BSUEL, in which a person who has grown accustomed to power tries to get rid of those who brought him to that power, says Associate Professor of the Department of World History and International Relations at ISU Sergey Schmidt. The new rector seeks to achieve complete independence, which can only be attained through a radical change of team.
As a reminder, Alexander Sukhodolov won the election for rector of Baikal State University of Economics and Law in Irkutsk on October 24, 2014.
At the university, the positions of three vice-rectors have been cut - for international relations, academic affairs, and continuing education. The first two positions were held by Oleg Repetsky and Valery Andriyanov. Also cut was the position of scientific director, which was held by the university’s former rector Mikhail Vinokurov.
As BSUEL Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Media Mikhail Rachkov said, Mikhail Vinokurov was notified of the cut two months in advance. The former rector will work out the required period in his current position, in accordance with the norms of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, and then leave the university, he noted.
- Mikhail Vinokurov is still working as vice-rector for research, but his position has been cut. He was notified two months in advance, as required by law. For now, he is working out his remaining time until dismissal. When the time is up, he will receive his employment record book and that’s all, – emphasized BSUEL Vice-Rector for Public Relations and Media Mikhail Rachkov.
Sergey Schmidt notes that the situation with the cuts of Mikhail Vinokurov’s and the vice-rectors’ positions is developing like in any large corporation, where there are intra-corporate clans and interest groups.
- Naturally, the newly strengthened power tries to get rid of those interest groups that are associated with its predecessors, – Sergey Schmidt emphasized.
The new rector promised that his first decree would be to add the position of scientific director of the university to the staff of the institution. This position had been promised to BSUEL’s former rector Mikhail Vinokurov.
