A sports facility for beach volleyball has opened in Irkutsk on Gagarin Boulevard. The court was installed on the initiative of the Chair of the City Duma, Irina Yezhova, with the support of the city administration. On June 27, a tournament was held at the sports site.Organizers hope that this place will become a popular recreation spot among city residents.
The first tournament was attended by teams from the Youth Duma and the Youth Mayor’s Office of Irkutsk, the Spartak swimming center, four amateur teams, and two veteran volleyball teams.
Irina Yezhova, acting Irkutsk Vice Mayor Vyacheslav Kudruk, Deputy Mayor and Chair of the City Improvement Committee Budat Dugarov, acting Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Committee on Social Policy and Culture Tatyana Edelman, and Dmitry Abramovich, head of the Department for Physical Culture, Sports, and Youth Policy of the Irkutsk administration, came to support the players.
As Irina Yezhova said, through the Active Irkutsk resident program, we put the issue of setting up such courts in Irkutsk before the city residents. Most Irkutsk residents supported us and noted that they are needed. These courts are convenient because they do not require preliminary designs or much time to set up, and they are also inexpensive. I believe that such sports facilities should be in all our neighborhoods, and two deputies have already supported this idea. It is possible that such sports facilities will appear in their electoral districts this summer.
The sports court will be open free of charge.
