Dmitry Berdnikov ordered unscheduled inspections of all municipal contracts related to road development in Irkutsk. The reason was not only a criminal case against one official, but also personnel decisions to remove senior employees involved in procurement and tariff violations. The mayor stressed the need to focus on road work quality, budget control, and corruption risks.

Dmitry Berdnikov decided that it is necessary to conduct unscheduled inspections of all municipal contracts related to the development of the road sector.
As the city mayor said, the reason for such a decision was not only the initiation of a criminal case against the deputy head of the Department of Road Activities of the Committee for Urban Development of the administration of the city of Irkutsk, who had worked in the mayor’s office for more than 7 years.
The city head noted that he has already made a number of personnel decisions to remove from office senior officials involved in violations in the area of procurement and tariff regulation.
In the mayor’s opinion, the quality of road repair work, the effectiveness of the officials responsible for the development of the road sector in the city and for monitoring the spending of budget funds allocated to the road construction industry require special attention.
“In order to curb corruption in the road construction industry, it is important to identify all risks, violations, and shortcomings in the established regulatory procedures for organizing road construction work in the city of Irkutsk, draw the necessary organizational conclusions, and make appropriate personnel decisions,” Dmitry Berdnikov noted.
