The 12th Baikal Congress of Anesthesiologists is taking place in Irkutsk, where specialists from different regions of the country have come. Using a complex nasal septum surgery as an example, doctors show how improved anesthesia methods help reduce risks and ease surgeons work. Forum participants discuss high tech approaches in one of the most responsible and demanding medical fields.
The congress of anesthesiologists is being held in the regional center for the twelfth time already.Specialists have come from different regions.
The operating block. Patients are transported around the corridors of the first Irkutsk hospital around the clock. Accidents and other emergencies constantly require immediate intervention.
No bustle and no unnecessary conversation. Today everything is on schedule. A man is having his nasal septum corrected. It affects blood pressure, hearing, and even memory. The nasopharynx has a rich blood supply and many nerve endings. In short, if pain occurs, it lasts a long time.
— If you take it on a ten-point scale, it’s eight or nine. It is a very painful operation — work on bones. Plus, there are reflexogenic zones inside the nose. There is a great deal of specificity here, — says the head of the otorhinolaryngology department, Mikhail Mikhaylov.
The instruments respond sensitively to the indicators. The anesthesia method for such an operation has been improved. The tracheal intubation was changed — this is the process of inserting a special tube — as well as the patient’s position.
— This makes the surgeon’s work easier and reduces the risk of anesthetic support. In this way, it reduces complications that are possible and that the anesthesiologist is obliged to anticipate, — says Deputy Chief Physician for Medical Work Anatoly Vorobyov.
Oxygen deficiency is avoided, and the quality of breathing is preserved. Today, Irkutsk anesthesiologists are sharing their developments with colleagues. The 12th Baikal Congress has brought together specialists from the Urals to the Far East. They have plenty to discuss, since the field is one of the most high-tech.
— In risks, in labor. It is suffering, the patient is in critical condition. Around them are loved ones and relatives. And that always leaves its mark not only on physical strength, but also on moral strength, — says Yuri Polushin, Vice President of the Federation of Anesthesiologists and Resuscitators of Russia.
