Former Irkutsk mayor Viktor Kondrashov said he is ready to become a proxy for Communist Party candidate for governor of Irkutsk Region Sergei Levchenko, though he remains a United Russia member and does not plan to join the Communist Party. He said he supports Levchenko for personal beliefs, not party ties. The piece also covers the upcoming early governor election on September 13 and other candidates.

Former mayor of the city of Irkutsk Viktor Ivanovich Kondrashov has stated that he is ready to become a trusted representative of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation candidate for governor of Irkutsk Oblast, State Duma deputy Sergei Levchenko. But for now he remains a member of the United Russia party and does not intend to join the CPRF.
Viktor Kondrashov has become a trusted representative of the CPRF candidate for governor.
- If I am offered to act as a trusted representative of candidate Sergei Levchenko, then most likely I will support this offer. So far, I have not received such an offer. At the same time, I still remain a member of United Russia and do not plan to join the CPRF. My support for Sergei Levchenko in the Irkutsk Oblast gubernatorial election is based on my personal position - it is better to die standing than to live on your knees, - Kondrashov emphasized.
Viktor Ivanovich was elected mayor of Irkutsk under the CPRF banner in 2010. However, he soon decided to join United Russia. This year his term of office expired. As a result of the municipal reform, direct mayoral elections in Irkutsk were abolished. The city duma deputies, in accordance with the legislation adopted in Irkutsk Oblast, elected a new mayor from among themselves - Dmitry Berdnikov became him.
On September 13, residents of Irkutsk Oblast will have to elect a governor ahead of schedule. Political parties have already put forward their candidates.
