In Irkutsk, in the Solnechny microdistrict, an international level aquatic sports complex has opened, designed for competitions, training camps, and daily workouts. It has two pools, stands for 1.3 thousand spectators, a gym, and fitness rooms, and the facility will become a center for water sports in the region. It is especially interesting that water polo competitions within the Russian Chinese Games will be held here for the first time in Irkutsk.

On July 12, a ceremonial opening of an international-level aquatic sports complex took place in the Solnechny microdistrict. The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Board of OJSC Gazprom Valery Golubev, Acting Governor of the Angara Region Sergey Eroshchenko, and Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Yuri Nogornykh.
The sports complex was built for holding international-level competitions and daily training sessions. The complex consists of two pools — 50x25 meters and 25x12 meters. A movable bulkhead makes it possible to transform the large pool basin into two 25-meter pools. The stands can accommodate about 1,300 spectators. The complex also includes a sports hall for team sports and fitness rooms.
"Today we are opening one of the most modern sports facilities in Irkutsk — an aquatic sports complex. I am confident that it will become a center for the development of water sports in the Irkutsk Region. Of course, first and foremost, the complex is intended for training athletes of international level. But it is very important that everyone who wishes will be able to swim and do other sports here as well. Right now, we are developing sports infrastructure in the region. In the future, the sports complex will host competitions in various sports at the regional, all-Russian, and international levels," Sergey Eroshchenko emphasized.
Construction of the complex began in October 2010. The investor in the project is OJSC Gazprom. The building consists of four blocks. Block "A" houses a 50 by 25 meter pool and stands for 1,300 seats, block "B" — a 25 by 12.5 meter pool, block "V" — catering facilities, and block "G" — a sports hall with a wellness center. The complex is designed to host training camps for Russian and foreign athletes, competitions in water sports, as well as for use by Irkutsk residents.
It should be noted that water polo competitions will be held in Irkutsk for the first time as part of the Russian-Chinese Games. Athletes will compete for victory in the new. A total of 352 athletes will take part in the Russian-Chinese Games — 176 from each side.
