In the 166th season, the Irkutsk drama theater will stage Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov for the first time.As the director of the Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater named after N. P. Okhlopkov, Anatoly Streltsov, said during a press conference today, July 17, the theater’s premieres will also include the productions The King Is Dying based on the play by Eugène Ionesco and Quartet for Two based on the work by Anatoly Krym.
"We want to dedicate this year to Dostoevsky: we will stage The Idiot and begin work on The Brothers Karamazov. These are our basic tasks. We will open the season on October 3 with Quartet for Two. Then on February 15 we will have Ionesco’s The King Is Dying. We need to start developing the fourth stage a little. In this regard, we will have Dostoevsky and Ionesco there. There is a desire to stage Mumu; we are now thinking about the adaptation. Many are asking us to revive A Memorial Prayer in a new form. It is a bit scary to step into the same water twice, but the issue is being considered," Anatoly Streltsov said.
In addition, he noted that on September 10, the Et Cetera theater led by Alexander Kalyagin will come to Irkutsk on tour. Residents of Irkutsk and visitors to the city will be able to see Shylock, The Comedy of Errors, and The Mystery of Aunt Melkin.
Next season, the Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater plans to go on tour to Ust-Ilimsk, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, and Novorossiysk.
