Dmitry Berdnikov inspected the repair progress of two sports facilities in the Leninsky district, the Spartak swimming center and the Lokomotiv sports complex. After the inspection, the mayor noted complaints about the quality of work at Spartak, ordered an independent review and a check of the Lokomotiv overhaul estimate, where work worth 18.5 million rubles is underway. He also paid special attention to the weightlifting section popular with Irkutsk residents, where young athletes train under experienced coaches.

Dmitry Berdnikov visited two sports facilities in the Leninsky District. The city mayor, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Vyacheslav Kudruk, Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Committee on Social Policy and Culture Tatyana Edelman, and other city administration staff, inspected the progress and quality of the repairs at the Spartak swimming center and the Lokomotiv sports facility.
The Spartak pool was opened in November last year. Under the warranty, the construction company Baikalregionstroy is obliged to correct all deficiencies identified during the year of operation.
“There are many complaints about the Spartak pool to the contractor, about the quality of the work. I instructed that an independent expert assessment be carried out of the completed work to determine its quality,” the mayor summarized after inspecting the pool.
The city administration purchased the Lokomotiv sports complex from Russian Railways OJSC in 2013. Since then, an assessment of the condition of the sports and recreation center building has been carried out, on the basis of which a major repair project was prepared. The contractor, Nasledie LLC, began the repairs on May 27. The contract completion date is October 15. The following work is to be carried out at the facility: repair of the roof and facade of the building, replacement of stained-glass windows, repair of ventilation, internal wiring, replacement of sanitary equipment, and other work. The cost of the repairs is 18.5 million rubles.
According to Andrey Osinovsky, director of the Municipal Institution City Sports and Methodological Center, which oversees the facility, the Lokomotiv sports complex is in very high demand among Irkutsk residents.
Proof of this is the weightlifting section at the sports complex. Dmitry Berdnikov looked at the conditions in which the athletes train and wished them and their coaches resounding sporting victories and success. The section is headed by Honored Powerlifting Coach of Russia Pyotr Semyonovich Gruzdev.
Pyotr Gruzdev is a legendary figure: he prepared for the 1980 Olympics and raised several generations of Irkutsk weightlifters. The current coaches of the section, Alexander Vereshchagin and Denis Osipov, are the winner and prize-winner of the Siberian Federal District powerlifting championship. The young weightlifters who train in this section show excellent results in competitions.
“I instructed that the estimate for the major repair of the Lokomotiv sports complex be checked. I hope that the contractor will not let us down and will carry out the major repair of Lokomotiv on time and with quality. I believe that today’s unscheduled inspection by the city mayor of the ongoing repairs will also make other contractors working at city facilities more responsible in fulfilling the obligations they have undertaken,” said Irkutsk Mayor Dmitry Berdnikov, summing up the inspection.
