The impact sent the Toyota Highlander onto the oncoming lane, where the Japanese car collided with two more vehicles. The SUV was literally torn apart. There were two men inside. The passenger — 36-year-old police lieutenant colonel Albert Sokolov — died at the scene. The driver — 26-year-old Denis Matveev, the CEO of a major construction company in Irkutsk — died that same night in the hospital. The alleged culprit of the car accident was also injured — the girl driving the Mercedes, 26-year-old Yulia Kiseleva. Eyewitness Alexandra Demchenko was driving by. Noticing the accident, she stopped and tried to help the injured, as did other witnesses to the crash.
— In the Mercedes, a girl was lying. Her legs were on the seat. She herself was lying on the asphalt. She was unconscious. They tried to bring her to her senses. They did it for a very long time, — says eyewitness Alexandra Demchenko.
