In Irkutsk, illegal advertising continues to be systematically removed. Another raid to dismantle sidewalk signs and shop signs took place on Uritsky pedestrian street. Authorities note there are far fewer such structures than a few years ago, but they still spoil the citys appearance, especially its historic center. Why the problem is not fully solved and where such raids most often take place, in the report.

They are systematically clearing the city of advertising. On the pedestrian street of Uritskogo, a raid was held to collect sidewalk signs and signboards installed illegally. The structures are removed almost every week. Most entrepreneurs make decisions about advertising on their own, without informing the city services.
However, advertising structures spoil the appearance of Irkutsk, especially its historic part. “Over the past three years, we have noted that the trend of placing advertising on building facades has already decreased. Today, compared to 2013, there is about three times less of it on building facades. But it still appears, and we are constantly fighting it,” said Natalya Sizykh, head of the outdoor advertising department of Irkutsk.
Most often, advertising structures are removed on Karl Marx, Lenin, and Uritskogo streets. These are exactly the places with many retail outlets. Last year, two thousand sidewalk signs were dismantled in the city. The city has become cleaner. But for now, there are still fewer honest entrepreneurs, and it has not been possible to completely rid the streets of illegal structures.
