Irkutsk State University and Irkutsk National Research Technical University entered the top 100 Russian universities in the Webometrics ranking, taking 22nd and 38th places. Both also made the top 3000 worldwide, and three more Irkutsk universities, MSLU EALI, IrGUPS and BUEP, were in the countrys top 200. The ranking assesses not only online presence but also research activity, external links and website content, making it useful for comparing universities.

Irkutsk State University and Irkutsk National Research Technical University made it into the TOP-100 best universities in Russia. They took 22nd and 38th places in the Webometrics ranking, respectively. These educational institutions also made it into the top three thousand best universities in the world, taking 2,055th and 2,830th places, respectively.
Three more universities in Irkutsk made it into the TOP-200.
Also among the top 200 universities were MSLU EALI (formerly ISLU), Irkutsk State University of Railway Engineering, and BSUEL. The former foreign languages institute took 107th place in Russia and 4,788th in the world ranking. The railway university came in 127th in the Russian Federation and 5,207th in the world, while Baikal State University of Economics and Law took 160th place in Russia and 5,910th in the world ranking.
The Webometrics ranking includes more than 20,000 universities worldwide based on the level of their presence in the online space. The criteria for analyzing university websites include the number of external links to the university website from other sources and its size.
The assessment of a university’s activity in the web space is significantly influenced by the number of pages and scientific articles posted on the university’s websites — the main university website, the websites of institutes, conferences, scientific and educational online projects, the content level of the main university websites, and other parameters. Thus, the Webometrics ranking makes it possible to additionally assess the research achievements of institutions by comparing their websites.
