In Irkutsk, a court remanded Yulia Kiseleva, suspected in a fatal crash on Baikalskaya Street, in custody for two months. On July 27, heavily drunk, she sped into a car stopped at a traffic light, killing two men. The case sparked public outcry, deputy Zhanna Eseva resigned, and a petition demanding punishment appeared online.

On August 7, the suspect in the fatal traffic accident on Baikalskaya Street was taken into custody. Yulia Kiseleva was arrested for 2 months. The verdict was handed down by the Oktyabrsky District Court. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Irkutsk Region.
As a reminder, the accident that claimed the lives of two men occurred on July 27. The daughter of Irkutsk deputy Zhanna Eseva got behind the wheel while intoxicated; the amount of alcohol in her blood was 12 times the legal limit. At a speed of about 160 km/h, Yulia Kiseleva’s Mercedes-Benz crashed into a Toyota Highlander that had stopped at a traffic light, and the Toyota, on the oncoming lane, then collided with two more vehicles. The impact was so strong that the people in the car had virtually no chance of surviving.

A criminal case has been opened over the accident under Part 6 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules and vehicle operation by a person in a state of intoxication, negligently causing the death of two or more persons). The perpetrator of the fatal crash faces 4 to 9 years in prison.
On July 29, Zhanna Eseva submitted a resignation letter, emphasizing that she does not accept claims that her deputy status could hinder the investigation.
"I am a mother, and I will help my daughter in this difficult situation, but I do not accept speculation that my deputy status could hinder an objective and fair investigation," she stressed.
People in Irkutsk fear that the situation could repeat itself, as it did with the daughter of the regional election commission secretary, Anna Shavenkova. A petition demanding that Yulia, the daughter of Irkutsk Duma deputy Zhanna Eseva, be held accountable appeared on the change.org website the day after the accident. Several thousand people signed it.
Yulia has now been questioned, and charges have been brought against her. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
