At the Museum of the History of the City of Irkutsk named after A.M. Sibiryakov, a ceremonial event dedicated to the All-Russian Physical Culture Day was held on August 7.
The honored guests were greeted by the city mayor. In his speech, he noted: “Irkutsk is renowned for the achievements of its athletes. The city has wonderful sports traditions that must be preserved and developed. Today, one of the government’s priority tasks is the construction of sports facilities: courts, swimming pools, physical culture and recreation complexes, stadiums. On this wonderful day, I would like to express special words of gratitude to sports veterans and coaches. Veterans are role models, and young people should know their life path, while the work of a coach, though not always visible, is precisely what determines the achievements of his or her students. I am confident that Irkutsk athletes have many victories ahead, and we, for our part, will do everything possible to ensure that physical culture and sports develop in our city.”
Certificates of Honor from the mayor for many years of conscientious work and achieving high sporting results were awarded to skating coach-teacher at the regional institution of additional education “Children and Youth Sports School ‘Rossiya’,” Honored Master of Sports of the Russian Federation Oksana Ravilova, and Deputy Director of the municipal institution “City Sports and Methodological Center of Irkutsk” Irina Balabanova.
