A Novokuznetsk resident was sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime colony for trying to transport 29 kg of heroin to Irkutsk. According to investigators, he agreed to carry a large drug shipment to pay off a casino debt. The drugs were hidden in his common law wife's car, and he was detained while handing over the cargo.
A resident of Novokuznetsk brought 29 kg of heroin to Irkutsk in February of last year. He explained this by saying that he was working off a debt in a casino. The Sverdlovsky District Court sentenced the drug courier to 10 years in prison to be served in a high-security penal colony. This was reported by the press service of the Irkutsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.According to the investigation, in early February 2014 the man agreed to deliver a large shipment of heroin from Novokuznetsk to Irkutsk for 170 thousand rubles.
"Most of this money was supposed to go toward repaying the debt. The man was fond of gambling and lost a large sum of money in a casino to a stranger, who then offered him to carry out the illegal transportation of heroin," the supervisory authority said.
The 29 kg of drugs, packaged into 148 packets, he hid in the passenger compartment of a car belonging to his common-law wife and set off for Irkutsk.
On February 5, 2014, while handing over the drugs, worth several tens of millions of rubles, the man was detained by police officers.
