In Russian homes, red cockroaches have quietly disappeared, and biologists are already discussing why this happened. The article suggests adding three cockroach species to the Chelyabinsk Region Red Book, black, Lapland, and steppe, and explains how red German cockroaches displaced black ones.

Mustached cockroaches, which biologists call “red cockroaches,” have quietly and without a trace disappeared from Russian homes. Biologists and ecologists do not have to puzzle over why the cockroaches died out, and who will now consume humanity’s waste….
Senior Research Fellow at the Ilmen State Reserve, Honored Ecologist of Russia Alexander Logunov proposed approaching the government of the Chelyabinsk Region with a proposal to include three species of cockroaches in the regional Red Book: the black, Lapland, and steppe cockroaches.
“These three species deserve to be listed in the Red Book,” says Logunov. “The Lapland and steppe cockroaches were encountered exclusively in the wild.
But until recently, many shared both home and table with black and red cockroaches. By the way, our ancestors greatly respected the black cockroach; its presence in the home was considered a sign of prosperity.
The main reason for the extinction of black cockroaches was the appearance of red cockroaches; they simply ate the offspring of the black ones. And no chemicals were needed.
If the black cockroach had lived in Rus’ since ancient times, the “red” one came to Russia in the 18th century, during the Russo-Prussian War. Our soldiers were looting: they brought home military trophies and all sorts of belongings. Along with them came these cockroaches too. That is why here the red cockroach is commonly called a Prussian. In France, too, it is called a Prussian. But in Prussia, this cockroach is called a Russian.
However, “red” cockroaches have also begun to disappear; the main reasons for their extinction are high-frequency radio waves used in cellular networks and Wi-Fi networks, genetically modified foods consumed by humans, European-style renovations using non-eco-friendly materials, as well as the disruption of the ozone layer, which throws off their biological rhythms.
