In Irkutsk, traffic police officers had to chase a drunk driver

In Irkutsk, a drunk Toyota Surf driver led police on a night chase, and was stopped only after two shots at the wheels. The 32 year old offender, already stripped of his license for a similar violation, is now in a detention center, and the collected materials have been sent to open a criminal case. Meanwhile, mass raids were held in the region, over the weekend traffic police detained 135 drunk drivers, 21 of them in Irkutsk.

On August 16, on Baikalskaya Street, a drunk Toyota Surf driver led police on a nighttime chase. It was only possible to stop the offender with two shots at the wheels. At present, the 32-year-old offender, who had already been held administratively liable for drunk driving and had been deprived of his driver’s license, is in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case will be opened against the reckless driver. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Irkutsk Region.
As the medical examination showed, alcohol was present in the man’s blood.
"The vehicle of the repeat offender has been sent to an impound lot. At present, all the collected materials have been transferred to the inquiry department to initiate a criminal case. During the comprehensive raid operations aimed at identifying drivers behind the wheel while intoxicated, over the past weekend traffic police officers in the Irkutsk Region detained 135 motorists in a state of alcohol intoxication, 21 of them in the regional center," the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.
As a reminder, checks are carried out in Irkutsk on weekends, especially on the approaches to places where city residents rest. For this purpose, significant forces of patrol services are involved and additional traffic police crews are deployed.
As reported by the press service of the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, law enforcement officers remind that the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation provides for a fine of 30,000 rubles for drunk driving, along with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of 1.5 to 2 years. If such an offense is committed again, the driver will be held criminally liable.
Since the beginning of 2015, traffic police inspectors in Irkutsk have detained 1,500 motorists who were behind the wheel while intoxicated.
