On May 30 in Moscow, with the support of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, the third March “Together Against Breast Cancer” will take place, with a large charity concert “Rock Against Cancer” as its final chord. The concert will feature well-known Russian rock bands - “CHAYF,” UMA2RMAN, “Moral Code,” “PELAGEYA,” and others. All funds raised from ticket sales for the concert will go toward purchasing diagnostic equipment for regional oncology centers in Russia.
Breast cancer is a treacherous disease. In its early stages it shows no symptoms, and in its later stages it is already difficult to treat. Every year this diagnosis is given to about 50,000 Russian women, and only half of them return to full life. The main goal of the charity events is to encourage women to undergo regular checkups and to raise funds for modern diagnostic equipment, thanks to which doctors will be able to detect breast cancer at an early, treatable stage.
“In our country it is not customary to talk about breast cancer, but this is something that needs to be talked about openly and repeatedly,” says TV host Olga Shelest. “Our campaign concerns every woman. Let us take care of our mothers, wives, friends, daughters. Let us not be indifferent to someone else’s pain!” urges artist and TV host Yuri Askarov.
Anyone who wishes can take part in the March “Together Against Breast Cancer.” The event starts at 12:00 in the center of Moscow, at Vasilyevsky Descent. The program includes speeches by leading specialists in oncology, officials, well-known actors, show business stars, and popular writers. During the March, a charity lottery will be held, with a car as the main prize. Writer Darya Dontsova, Ambassador of the charity program “Together Against Breast Cancer” in Russia, will honor women who are successfully fighting the disease. At 16:00, the procession will begin along the central embankments of the capital and will finish at “Luzhniki,” where at 19:00 the concert “Rock Against Cancer” will take place. Well-known Russian rock performers will support the program - the bands “ChayF,” “Moral Code,” “UMA2RMAN,” “PELAGEYA,” and others.
Vladimir Shakhrin, CHAYF: “Taking part in charity is the norm for a decent person. Making a woman happy is a man’s highest calling. The ChayF band are decent people and, without a doubt, men. We are ready to join the fight against breast cancer for the sake of our women. If you are with us, then be at ‘Luzhniki’ on May 30!”
Tickets for the concert “Rock Against Cancer” are sold on the portal www.concert.ru and at Moscow box offices. All proceeds from their sale will be used to purchase mammography equipment for oncology centers. Come to the March and buy tickets to the Concert - the lives of your loved ones depend on you! Residents of St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, and Krasnodar have already confirmed their participation in the March and Concert.
Charity marches within the “Together Against Breast Cancer” program have been held in 50 countries around the world for more than 10 years. In Russia, the marches have taken place twice - in 2007 and 2008. About 2,500 people from all over Russia took part in them, and more than 8 million rubles were raised. These funds have already been allocated to the purchase of modern diagnostic equipment for medical centers in order to provide free examinations for women in the Yaroslavl, Penza, and Novgorod regions, the Naro-Fominsk district of the Moscow region, and the Republic of Tatarstan. In 2009, modern mobile diagnostic units will be purchased for oncology dispensaries in the cities of Tomsk and Irkutsk, intended to serve the population in remote and hard-to-reach settlements.
The third charity March “Together Against Breast Cancer” and the concert “Rock Against Cancer” will make it possible to raise funds for the purchase of new equipment, as well as for organizing training sessions for oncologists from the regions.
