Irkutsk native Vera Izmodenova became world champion in women's athletics over 50.

At the World Masters Athletics Championships in Lyon, Irkutsk athlete Vera Izmodenova achieved a brilliant success. In the women 50 and over category, she won the marathon, breaking the Russian record by 3 minutes 25 seconds, and also helped the Russian team win the team marathon. In the end, Izmodenova became a two time world champion.

In the city of Lyon, France, from August 4 to 16, 2015, the World Masters Athletics Championships were held. The Irkutsk Region was represented at the competition by four athletes.
According to the results of the competition, Irkutsk resident Vera Izmodenova, in the women 50 years and older category, took first place in the marathon, breaking the Russian record by 3 minutes 25 seconds.
The winner’s time was 3 hours 7 min. 39 sec. As part of the Russian national team, Vera Izmodenova also won the team marathon and became a two-time world champion.
