New details have emerged in the high-profile case. The culprit in the fatal accident that occurred on July 27, 2015, on Baikalskaya Street, Yulia Kiseleva, has filed an appeal against the court’s decision to place her in custody. As a reminder, on August 7 the suspect was taken into custody. Yulia Kiseleva was arrested for 2 months. The sentence was handed down by the Oktyabrsky District Court. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Irkutsk Region.
Police lieutenant colonel Albert Sokolov died at the scene of the accident, and his friend Denis Matveev died in the hospital. Yulia was taken away by ambulance with a broken arm and leg. Later, a criminal case was opened against her. Two weeks later, despite her injuries, Yulia was discharged from the hospital; that same day she went to the first court hearing.
- Her lawyer asked that she be placed under house arrest, saying she needed treatment, - says Veronika, the wife of businessman Denis Matveev, who died because of Kiseleva. - But the judge considered that the injuries were not that serious and that she could quite well remain in the pretrial detention center under doctors’ supervision.
As reported by the Investigative Committee for the Irkutsk Region, the suspect was arrested for 2 months. Naturally, neither the culprit herself nor her defense expected such a decision. After all, according to them, the culprit in the accident had undergone several operations and more were still ahead; they insisted on changing the decision, but nothing changed.
A couple of days after the court hearing, Yulia Kiseleva’s lawyers filed an appeal against the Oktyabrsky District Court’s decision. They explained this by saying that Kiseleva has serious injuries, needs treatment, and requires care for her child. The lawyer submitted the papers on August 10; a week later, the materials were sent to the Irkutsk Regional Court for review. The exact date of the court hearing has not yet been set. And this lawyer will no longer be seen in court. As it was learned, during the investigation of Kiseleva’s case, the lawyers have already changed more than once. Whether the new lawyers will be able to help the culprit of the fatal accident, we will find out in the near future.
