Beloborodov Afanasy Pavlantyevich - commander of the 43rd Army, lieutenant general.
Born on January 31, 1903, in the village of Akinino, Irkutsk Okrug, Irkutsk Governorate, now part of Irkutsk District of Irkutsk Oblast, into a peasant family.
Everything about the army general and our fellow countryman at "Walks through Old Irkutsk" on August 25, in the talks by Associate Professor of the Department of Russian History of the Faculty of History of Irkutsk State University Alexander Anufriev. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place near the building of the Irkutsk Infantry School, where the future general studied in 1923-24, at the intersection of 5th Army Street and Yaroslav Gashek Street.
Marshal of the Soviet Union I.Kh. Bagramyan recalled: "During the preparation of the offensive of the 43rd and 4th Shock Armies on Riga, we had to carry out a whole series of very complex measures… On September 13, Leonov and I were with General Beloborodov, checking the readiness of the 43rd Army for the offensive. Afanasy Pavlantyevich, as always in such cases, was focused and thoughtful. He had commanded the army for only about three months, but I had already come to have complete trust in him. The army commander was very pedantic in preparing combat operations, did not lose sight of even seemingly minor issues, and personally controlled all troop preparations. We were convinced on the spot of the full readiness of the 43rd for the start of the offensive. The troops of our front successfully broke through the enemy's defenses and by the end of the third day of the offensive had advanced up to 50 kilometers, threatening to cut the communications leading to East Prussia. On September 19, I was summoned by I.V. Stalin by secure telephone. I reported to him on the progress of the offensive of the 43rd and 4th Shock Armies, emphasizing at the same time that enemy resistance had sharply increased on the approaches to Riga. The Supreme Commander praised the troops of the front for their successful actions and suggested that information about those who had distinguished themselves be immediately sent to the General Staff. In the evening we listened with excitement on the radio to the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, in which he thanked the troops of the 1st Baltic Front for the successes achieved during the September offensive. The capital saluted us with twenty artillery volleys".
On September 16, 1945, he had the honor of receiving the third Victory Parade in Harbin. Beloborodov became the first among Irkutsk natives to be twice Hero of the Soviet Union and was awarded the erection of a bronze bust in his native places.
