On August 24, a mercury-containing waste collection campaign will take place in Irkutsk. This time, residents of Novo-Lenino and Irkutsk-II will turn in spent energy-saving lamps, thermometers, and batteries. The campaign will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the “Uznovaya” stop, in the area in front of the shopping center.
Recall that this event has already been a great success in Akademgorodok and in the Solnechny microdistrict.
As the event coordinators said, Irkutsk residents are actively taking part in this campaign and have already turned in more than three hundred lamps.
In September, the campaign will be held two more times: on September 6 at the “Barguzin” stop and on September 21 at 8 Uritskogo Street.
Mercury-containing waste must not be thrown into trash bins; it must be disposed of in a special way.
- With campaigns like this, we are telling city residents: “Are you still throwing away mercury lamps and batteries? Then we’re coming to you!” We inform people about the need to handle hazardous waste properly and give them such an opportunity, explained Maksim Vorontsov, project leader and staff member of the public organization “Baikal Environmental Wave.”
