New speed bumps were installed on Mukhina Street in Irkutsk, by the Folk Drama Theater and near School No. 46 on Anosov Street. The work was done after appeals from deputy Mikhail Kornev. The sidewalk was also repaired, bushes removed, and new crosswalk markings painted. The measures should make the area safer for children going to school and kindergartens, especially before the school year starts.
New speed bumps have been installed on Mukhina Street. The speed reducers appeared near the building of the Folk Drama Theater, as well as the traffic light signs on Anosova Street, near Secondary School No. 46. This was reported by the press service of the Irkutsk mayor’s office. The installation of the road signs was made possible thanks to Irkutsk Duma deputy for electoral district No. 34, Mikhail Kornev.
“A few years ago, also at the request of Deputy Kornev, a speed limit sign was installed on Mukhina Street. The structure quickly became unusable because it was built with violations. The structure wore down and sagged. This became especially dangerous when a new kindergarten No. 176 was built nearby, since Mukhina Street has heavy traffic,” the press service of the Irkutsk administration said.
By today, the sidewalk on Mukhina Street has been replaced on the section from Anosova Street to Teatralnaya Street, the bushes have been removed, new pedestrian crossing markings have been painted, and two new speed limit signs (“speed bumps”) have been installed.
“I had to push for this by repeatedly appealing to both the traffic police and the city improvement committee. ‘Speed bumps’ are extremely necessary here. Residents are taking their children to kindergartens, and kids are heading to school. On the eve of the school year, this is especially relevant,” Mikhail Kornev emphasized.
