The Irkutsk Region prosecutor's office will inspect the opening of a funeral hall opposite School No. 53 in Irkutsk, which outraged teachers. The principal complained not only about the proximity of funeral services but also about a metal fence, forcing children to walk to school on the roadway. Rospotrebnadzor said funeral agencies do not need licenses, but must follow sanitary rules.
It is frightening to imagine how first-graders and the other students of School No. 53 will sit in class and see people in mourning clothes, black ribbons, wreaths flashing by… Not pleasant, is it? The teachers were horrified too when a funeral parlor opened next door to the school a month ago.The Prosecutor’s Office of the Irkutsk Region will conduct an inspection into the opening of a funeral hall opposite Educational Institution No. 53 in Irkutsk, which provides services for selling wreaths and organizing memorial lunches.
“I am not thrilled about such a neighborhood. I consulted with lawyers and filed a complaint with the prosecutor’s office. Not only did the hall itself appear here, but also a metal fence that blocked the children’s way to school. Yes, thanks to this, what is happening inside the funeral bureau’s yard is not visible, but the fence was installed right on the sidewalk. Now the students will have to walk to school along the roadway. There is no way to go around it by any other route,” said School Principal Lyudmila Efremkina.
According to Mikhail Luzhnov, deputy head of the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor, only licensed types of activity are subject to inspection, and funeral agencies are not among them. At present, we do not issue permits. But they must nevertheless comply with sanitary rules. An inspection will be carried out if complaints are received.
