Students in Irkutsks Slavny district must walk nearly 5 kilometers to school. There is no school in the area, and no bus to the nearest one. Poor roads, trash removal, lighting and cell service add to this, and residents still do not know when a kindergarten, school and other key facilities will appear. The districts development is set to be discussed at a hearing in October.
Schoolchildren in the Slavny microdistrict of Irkutsk will have to walk 5 kilometers to their school, as there is no school in the microdistrict itself, and no bus service has been organized to the nearest one, according to a report on August 31 on the website of the region’s human rights commissioner, Valery Lukin. In addition to the absence of a school or a bus to the nearest one, the microdistrict has poor road quality, no organized garbage collection or removal, and problems with street lighting and cellular service quality.
“Residents of the microdistrict have not been informed about when a kindergarten and school will be built there, or when medical and postal service points will be organized. The main issue currently worrying the commissioner remains the lack of organized transportation for children from the remote microdistrict to their place of study. He asked the city authorities to solve this problem,” the statement says.
According to the website, the issue of the microdistrict’s development will be discussed at parliamentary hearings in October.
