In Irkutsk Region, mortality from cardiovascular diseases has been declining in recent years, doctors say the rate has steadily fallen since 2011 and continued to drop in 2015. Vladimir Gorbachev links this to modern diagnostic equipment, treatment standards, and more active use of thrombolytic therapy. Nine primary vascular centers also operate successfully in the region, helping provide faster care to patients with acute coronary syndrome.

As reported by Vladimir Gorbachev, Deputy Chief Physician of the Irkutsk Regional Clinical Hospital and head of the Regional Vascular Center, mortality from cardiovascular diseases has decreased in the Angara region.

In the Irkutsk Region, a decline in mortality from cardiovascular diseases has been observed over the past several years.
According to Gorbachev, in 2011 the figure in the Irkutsk Region was 729.9 per 100,000 population, in 2012 it was 728.2, and in 2013 it was 721.1. Last year the trend continued — 707.7 per 100,000 population, and as of September 1, 2015 — 701.9 per 100,000 population.

As a reminder, the ONF recently published mortality data from cardiovascular diseases, citing Rosstat. In the first half of 2015, 53 regions of Russia saw an increase in this indicator. The Irkutsk Region was not among them.
Vladimir Gorbachev said that the reduction in mortality was aided by the use of modern diagnostic equipment and adherence to treatment standards at all stages of the disease.
“This year, the flow of scheduled and emergency coronary angiography at the IOKB has doubled, which is associated with the commissioning of the second angiography complex — one of the most advanced diagnostic and treatment complexes in Russia. In addition, in the Angara region, doctors have begun to use thrombolytic therapy one and a half times more often at the pre-hospital and hospital stages. All these measures have made it possible to minimize the consequences of acute coronary syndrome for patients.”
Vladimir Gorbachev also highlighted the clear organization of work of all primary vascular departments in the Irkutsk Region: “Qualified and high-quality medical care is available to patients with cardiovascular diseases throughout the entire region, regardless of place of residence. Nine primary vascular centers have been created and are operating successfully, where everything necessary is available to stabilize the condition of a patient with acute coronary syndrome, as well as to provide scheduled care. If necessary, patients are referred to the regional vascular center. All this helps reduce mortality from cardiovascular diseases and increases patients’ chances of a full and long life after a heart attack.”
