Heavy snowfall today disrupted Irkutsk airport operations, several flights were delayed, and planes from Moscow and Novosibirsk had to be received in other cities. After the runway was cleared, the airport returned to normal operations. Meanwhile, Irkutsk city road services said they were fully ready for icy conditions and new snowfall, but will not use chemical reagents because they harm cars and the environment.
Heavy snowfall disrupted operations at Irkutsk Airport today. The precipitation disrupted the schedule of several flights. Thus, the departure of the Irkutsk-Bangkok flight was delayed by almost six hours. Two flights from Moscow and one from Novosibirsk were not granted permission to land in Irkutsk. They were accepted by the airports in Krasnoyarsk, Bratsk, and Novosibirsk. After the snowfall ended, the runway was cleared. And just an hour ago, Irkutsk Airport resumed normal operations.
However, Irkutsk road enterprises - “Irkutskavtodor,” “Spetsavtotrans,” and the Bridge Maintenance Service - are fully prepared for icy conditions and snowfall. This was reported by Sergei Chertkov, head of the Department of Road Construction, Landscaping, and Transport of the city administration.
The head of the Department of Road Construction, Landscaping, and Transport also emphasized that no chemical reagents will be used in the city, since they are harmful not only to car bodies, but also to the city’s environment as a whole.
