In the Irkutsk regional infectious diseases hospital, a pediatric ward nurse was fired after a video appeared showing her roughly handling a small disabled child from an orphanage. The recording was given to the child ombudsman, after which the hospital held an emergency inspection and began an internal investigation. Based on the findings, action may also be taken against the ward head.
A nurse from the children’s department of the Irkutsk Regional Infectious Clinical Hospital was dismissed. The reason for this was her dismissive attitude toward a disabled child, which was recorded on video by eyewitnesses. This video recording was handed over to the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Irkutsk Region. The video shows the nurse roughly and irritably changing a 3-4-year-old boy. As it later turned out, the child was disabled and an orphanage resident.
An emergency inspection was carried out at the healthcare institution in connection with this incident, and an internal investigation was launched at the hospital itself. As reported by the office of the children’s ombudsman of the Angara region, the nurse has been dismissed, and measures regarding the head of the department will be taken based on the results of the inspection.
As a reminder, after the death of a 9-year-old child who was admitted for treatment with an intestinal infection in April 2014, video surveillance was installed in the admissions area of the regional clinical hospital.
