Free Wi Fi has appeared on Irkutsk municipal buses. First it will work on five buses of route 37, then on all of route 3. Passengers will also be offered a Mobile Library with QR codes to download licensed books, mostly classics, directly to a smartphone or tablet. The project should not only make trips more convenient, but also attract young people to reading.

Free wireless internet has appeared in Irkutsk municipal transport.
Buses equipped with Wi-Fi will run on route 37. Starting August 10, five such vehicles will begin operating in the city, and in a couple of weeks, after the pilot period ends, free wireless internet will be connected on all buses on route No. 3. The bus can be identified by its corresponding color scheme, the city administration’s press service reported.
As noted by the city hall press service, the organization of free Wi-Fi in municipal transport became possible thanks to a partnership between the municipal unitary enterprise "Irkutskavtotrans" and the mobile operator MTS. In addition to Internet access technology, the provider offers passengers its own project — "Mobile Library." On a special stand in the bus, the spines of books with titles and authors are displayed, and each book has its own QR code. Using an app to recognize such codes, you can download a book to your smartphone or tablet.
Only licensed content is provided to residents of Irkutsk, and the digital stand is based on the classics. According to the project organizers, such a high-tech library will help increase the popularity of classical literature among young people.
- We are very glad that this project is launching in our city, where there are so many students and young people. In the modern world, digital technologies are not a luxury, but a vital necessity. Therefore, we plan to test the new equipment now, understand how in demand it is among city residents, and then we plan to install Wi - Fi in all municipal buses where there is technical capability for this, - said the deputy mayor of Irkutsk, Vyacheslav Kudruk.
