In Irkutsk, a 24 hour parking lot under the overpass on the Angara embankment was removed. The decision was made after appeals from residents and deputies who considered the parking lot dangerous and spoiling the city center. The area has been handed over to the administration, and a beautification project is now being developed for it, with sports courts among the possible options.
Such a decision was made by the committee for the administration of the Right Bank District on the basis of appeals from residents and deputies of the Duma. Their concern was related to the fact that the round-the-clock parking of cars under the overpass with heavy traffic is dangerous. In addition, car owners did not improve this area - the appearance of the parking lot spoiled the aesthetic look of the Angara embankment and the central part of Irkutsk as a whole.As reported by the committee for the administration of the Right Bank District, this plot of land was leased to an outside organization. The leadership of the committee for the administration of the Right Bank District sent a letter to the Ministry of Property Relations of the Irkutsk Region requesting termination of the lease agreement for this plot. A decision was made to liquidate the parking lot. The demolition of the fences was carried out by the forces of MUP “Irkutskavtodor”. Since August, responsibility for the condition of the territory has been borne by the administration of the city of Irkutsk, and the area is cleaned regularly.
Deputy Mayor - Chairman of the Committee for the Administration of the Right Bank District Yevgeny Drokov commented on plans for the use of this plot: “A project for the improvement of this area is currently being developed. Among the proposals is, in particular, the installation of sports courts here. This work is being carried out jointly with the Committee for Urban Planning Policy”.
