At a press conference, Sergei Levchenko sharply addressed his rival in the second round of the gubernatorial election in Irkutsk Region, Sergei Eroshchenko, urging him to apologize to the people and resign. He also hoped more voters would turn out on September 27 than in the first round. The report also covers the election, turnout, a calm voting day, and observers views on violations in some municipalities.
On September 15, at a press conference, the candidate in the second round of the gubernatorial election in the Irkutsk Region from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Sergei Levchenko, suggested that his opponent from United Russia, Sergei Eroshchenko, tear his shirt on his chest, ask the people for forgiveness, and resign.“I would call Eroshchenko a downed pilot. I would say that Sergei Vladimirovich is unlikely to feel like a governor today, because most of Irkutsk—the capital of the region—did not accept him. And after all, the entire elite, officials, advanced and enlightened people are gathered here. In his case, he needs to tear his shirt on his chest, say, ‘forgive us, good people,’ and resign himself,” the politician said.
In his opinion, the possibility of a second round of the election showed that not everything is decided for the electorate. Therefore, Sergei Levchenko hopes that on September 27 more people will come to vote than on September 13.
As a reminder, as reported by the Election Commission, the second round will be scheduled for September 27. Two candidates who received the highest number of votes, i.e. Sergei Eroshchenko and Sergei Levchenko, will take part in the voting on September 27.
Voter turnout in the region’s gubernatorial election as of 7:30 p.m. was 27.33%. The most active were the Banyadaevsky, Cheremkhovsky, and Balagansky districts. According to the chairman of the Irkutsk Region Election Commission, the day passed calmly, and no serious violations were recorded. A similar opinion was expressed by the head of the Irkutsk branch of the Golos movement, Alexey Petrov. He noted the calm nature of the voting day in Irkutsk, adding that the main violations were recorded in those municipalities where local elections were combined with the gubernatorial election.
