A ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the district police officer service was held today at the Irkutsk City Hall. The honorees — Irkutsk district police officers — were recognized by Deputy Mayor of Irkutsk Nikolai Khitsenko.

As of today, 228 district police officers are serving in the city. Over the first 10 months of 2008, they solved 1,826 criminal offenses and 17,825 administrative violations. In 2008, more than 30,000 Irkutsk residents turned to district police officers for help.

For conscientious performance of their official duties, the distinguished district police officers were awarded anniversary orders. Deputy Mayor of Irkutsk Nikolai Khitsenko expressed his gratitude for the work of the district police officers. He noted that the city authorities pay great attention to the work of the district police service. In 2008, more than 11 million rubles from the city budget were spent on improving the working conditions of police officers. These funds were used to repair public safety posts and improve the material base.

At the end of his speech, Nikolai Khitsenko presented letters of appreciation, honorary diplomas, and valuable gifts on the occasion of the holiday and announced the winner of the traditional competition “The Best District Police Officer of Irkutsk.” In 2008, the best was Police Major Alexey Peshkov, the district police officer for the Leninsky District of Irkutsk. The winner was presented with a laptop.
