The Russian team lost to the Italians in the three day Davis Cup match in our city and lost their chance to win the tie. Teimuraz Gabashvili lost to Fabio Fognini in a close fight, and the result was disappointing for fans. Even a possible win by Andrey Rublev will not change the outcome. Despite the loss, the Russians were praised as very worthy, and Evgeny Kafelnikov said they fought like gladiators.
Unfortunately, the Russian national team lost to the Italians in a three-day Davis Cup match held in our city. On September 20, the match between our athletes and the Italians took place.Teymuraz Gabashvili defended the honor of his country. The match was not easy: victory was sometimes on our side, sometimes on the opponent’s side. Teymuraz Gabashvili fought for every point, but still lost on points to Fabio Fognini. The result of the match is disappointing: the Italian won the final set 7:6, and 3:0 in sets.
For our fans, this is a disaster, because not only the match was lost, but the entire contest as well. Even if Andrey Rublev beats Simone Bolelli in the next match, the situation will not change.
Let us recall that after two days of the tournament, the Italians are leading 3-1. In 2016, the Russian tennis players will not be seen in the World Group of the tournament, but the guys did well. Even former world No. 1 Yevgeny Kafelnikov wrote on social media: "There is nothing to reproach the guys for, they fought like gladiators!"
