In Irkutsk, it is planned to install ten new bicycle parking areas. This project was discussed on October 15 at a meeting of the Irkutsk Youth Duma.Bicycle parking areas will be installed near municipal institutions. Among them are the "Trud" Sports Palace, the "Baikal-Arena" sports complex, the student polyclinic, the Drama Theater, the city administration, and others.
The youth deputies inspected the locations of the future parking areas, took photos, and drew up a map. Now this issue needs to be coordinated with the administration.
"The main goal is to adapt the urban environment for cycling, to show that this topic is very relevant today and that people are working on it. We need to gradually approach solving this issue. A bicycle is an environmentally friendly and economical means of transportation. At various levels of government, concepts for organizing vehicle traffic have recently been developed, with the main focus on bicycles," noted Vladislav Smetanin, one of the project developers.
According to the city mayor's press service, young deputies are also currently working on the possibility of creating bicycle lanes in the city.
Pilot projects will be implemented on Dekabrskikh Sobytiy Street (from 1st Sovetskaya Street to Timiryazeva Street) and Timiryazeva Street (from the intersection with Dekabrskikh Sobytiy Street to the intersection with Baikalskaya Street).
