The ONF Public Expertise ranked regional capitals with the highest road death rates. Irkutsk was sixth. Krasnodar, Lipetsk and Perm led. Moscow and St. Petersburg were not in the top ten.

The Center for the All-Russian Popular Front “People’s Expertise” has compiled a ranking of regional capitals with the highest road mortality rates. In the ranking, Irkutsk took sixth place. According to the traffic police, since the beginning of 2015, 6.5 fatal cases per 100,000 people were recorded in Irkutsk.
The three most dangerous cities for motorists and pedestrians were Krasnodar — 7.1 deaths per 100,000 residents, Lipetsk and Perm — 5.1 each. Moscow and St. Petersburg did not make the top ten.
The ONF Center “People’s Expertise” intends to draw the attention of local authorities to the problem of high mortality, and also, as part of the “Map of Life” project, to involve public oversight in identifying high-risk areas, the Front’s press service reports.
In accordance with Vladimir Putin’s “May decree,” it is necessary to ensure a reduction in road accident deaths to 10.6 cases per 100,000 people by 2018. At the same time, over the past two years, road mortality in the country has decreased by only 0.2% — in 2013. This figure amounted to 18.85 cases per 100,000 people, and in 2014 — 18.47. Every year, the country loses the population of a small city on its highways.
