In the Irkutsk District, the first candidate was officially registered on October 29. It was Andrey Poberezhny, head of the Urikovskoye municipality. He will run with the support of the United Russia party. The Irkutsk District Territorial Election Commission presented Poberezhny with candidate certificate No. 1.
He was twice ahead of his opponent Leonid Prokopyev. Poberezhny is called one of the strongest candidates for district head.
In response to the question “Why are you running in the election for mayor of the Irkutsk District?” he said:
— My decision to run for mayor is well thought out and serious. I want residents to see that power can work for people too, and not just people for it. I have been working as the head of the Urikovskoye municipality in the Irkutsk District for 8 years. I know the district’s problems and its potential very well. I know the issues of each individual municipality, the capabilities of our specialists, the structure of the budget sphere, and the budget’s capabilities. I believe that first of all it is necessary to stop the various confrontations in the district and unite sensible forces to solve the tasks of each settlement.
The election for mayor of the Irkutsk District is scheduled for December 6.
As a reminder, former Irkutsk District mayor Igor Naumov resigned on July 13, after which elections were to be scheduled within six months. When the date was set — December 6 — the election campaign officially began on September 19.
