In Irkutsk Region, construction companies united in the Nonprofit Partnership of Builders of the Baikal Region, starting the creation of a self regulatory organization. The new structure must set industry standards, monitor work quality, and form an insurance fund in case obligations are not met. 14 major companies have already joined, and participants stress that self regulation will help increase responsibility and avoid problems in the construction market.

Companies have united in the Nonprofit Partnership of Builders of the Baikal Region, thereby beginning the process of creating a self-regulatory organization.
Today, the first conference of the newly created organization took place. Under the federal law that came into force in July of this year, construction companies must unite into a single structure that will independently determine industry standards, monitor the quality of work performed by its members, and bear responsibility for it. A self-regulatory organization is also required to have an insurance fund that will be used in the event of failure to fulfill declared obligations. So far, 14 major construction companies from the Irkutsk Region have joined the nonprofit partnership; however, as was stated today at the conference, participation in the self-regulatory organization will be an essential condition for effective work in the construction market. There are currently more than 5,500 construction companies in the Irkutsk Region.

Sergey Brilka, Chairman of the Board of the Nonprofit Partnership of Builders of the Baikal Region: “If we recall all the problems: with equity holders who lost their housing, the riots that took place in Russia, then self-regulation in the construction business helps avoid this”

Aleksey Ponomarev, General Director of a construction company: “This is where collective responsibility begins. And most importantly, we must learn to take responsibility for other companies that join the SRO. That is the most difficult thing — collective responsibility”
