Tosno confidently beat Baikal 2 0 in the FNL second round match, though the game began evenly and the first goal was essentially an own goal by the Irkutsk club. In the second half the hosts failed to create real chances, and the visitors calmly controlled the game and sealed the win with Rustem Mukhametshin's goal in the 87th minute.
By the second-round match of the FNL championship, the teams had not come to the game in their standard lineups: the nominal hosts were without Narylkov, who received a two-match suspension for a rough tackle in the game against Zenit-2, while the visitors were missing their main center back Mishchenko, the author of the only goal in the first-round meeting between these teams, due to a fourth caution. Also, for the Irkutsk club, Bogdanov and Mayboroda were unable to take part in the match because of injuries, while for Tosno, Komkov was on the injured list.In the center of midfield for the hosts, Narylkov was replaced by Seletskiy, who started the match from the opening minutes for the first time this season. Yushchuk, who picked up a minor injury in the match against Zenit, remained on the bench, while Kiselev, the author of the winning goal in that match, appeared in the starting lineup. Merkulov operated on the left side of midfield before the break. For the visitors, Mukhametshin, Laptev, and Bochkov, who had started the match against Spartak-2, remained on the bench, while Golyshov, Astafyev, and Proshin came into the starting lineup.
In the first half, Tosno had more of the ball on the field. In the 3rd minute, after a good cross from the flank, Mikhalev headed at goal, but Borodko tipped the ball for a corner. In the 18th minute, FC Baikal responded with an attack, but Baychora dealt with Mashnev’s shot from medium range. In the 24th minute, Tosno scored, or rather, Baikal scored an own goal after a chain of mistakes. First, Mikhalev was allowed to turn on the left flank and send a low cross across the goalmouth. On the opposite flank, Astafyev collected the ball and was again left unchallenged to deliver a cross. Borodko came out to intercept and awkwardly sent the ball into his own net. This was perhaps the first serious mistake by Baikal’s goalkeeper. The score remained unchanged until the end of the half.
Before the second half, the Irkutsk club’s coach Dzutsev made two substitutions – Avagimyan and Akhba were replaced by Kirillov and Mildzikhov. The formation also changed – Merkulov dropped back on the left flank into defense, Mildzikhov took his place, and Kirillov mainly attacked down the right flank. The start of the half was marked by Baikal’s active pressing in the opponent’s half, and this pressing even periodically produced results, but with unclear passes the hosts’ players again gave the ball back to the opponent. Baikal created few chances in the second half, if not none at all. In the 48th minute, Mildzikhov shot straight into Baychora’s hands, and in the 67th minute Seletskiy shot wide of the bottom corner. The hosts’ most substantial chance came in the 56th minute: after a cross from the flank, Mashnev missed the ball, it bounced to Mildzikhov, and the Baikal midfielder fired from about 14 meters into his own forward Gonezhukov. Another Dzutsev substitution – Kortava for Gonezhukov in the 71st minute – did little to strengthen Baikal’s attack. Tosno, meanwhile, controlled the game in the second half, and had good chances to increase the score, which eventually happened. Mikhalev, Astafyev, Golyshov, and again Astafyev had chances to score, but it was substitute Rustem Mukhametshin who did so, in the 87th minute, finishing well after Borodko parried Proshin’s cross from the flank. This goal signaled the end of the match.
