In Irkutsk Region more than 8 thousand children still live in specialized orphan institutions, but this year 204 children have already found families. The number of Russian adoptive parents has grown notably. Last year 132 children found parents, this year 174, and 30 more children went abroad. The article explains how guardianship works in the region and why specialists believe adoption is not as difficult as many think.

In our region, more than 8,000 children are currently in specialized institutions for orphans. Each of them dreams of a mother and father. This year, 204 children were lucky.
It is impossible not to be pleased by the fact that recently the number of children placed in families of citizens under guardianship, foster care, and family-based upbringing groups has increased, and more and more children are also being placed in foster families.
174 children were adopted in the outgoing year in the Angara region by Russian citizens, and 30 children have now found their home abroad.
The question of whether adoption by foreigners should be allowed has been discussed more than once in our society, but it still remains open. The fate of children who end up abroad is monitored by the guardianship and trusteeship center. For three years, adoptive parents must send specialists photographs and certificates about the child’s health condition. Everything possible is being done to ensure that the child remains in Russia. If there is a choice between Russian and foreign adoptive parents, the child will stay with the former.
And the number of Russian adoptive parents is growing as well: last year only 132 children found their Russian parents, while this year, as noted, 174.
"Everyone thinks that the adoption process is very difficult, that you need to collect a lot of documents. But we inform people that it is not that difficult. And only a small number of documents are required," said Olesya Klimenok, lead specialist-expert of the department of the Department of Family, Demographic Policy, Guardianship and Trusteeship of the Irkutsk Region.
