In Irkutsk, the charity shop Island of Hope has been operating for almost two and a half years, the citys first project of this kind, modeled after foreign and Moscow stores. You can bring intact and clean items, clothes, shoes, toys, books, dishes, furniture, and more, and they are then given free to social organizations and needy families. Part of the funds goes to rent and utilities, and the rest to charity and social purposes.
In Irkutsk, the charity shop “Island of Hope” has been operating for almost two and a half years. This first project of its kind for Irkutsk was borrowed from foreign and capital-city charity shops. As part of the campaign, city residents are invited to bring and donate various items (clothing, shoes, toys, books, dishes, fabric, souvenirs, household appliances, furniture, and so on). Both new and used items are accepted; the only requirement is that the items must be intact and clean.
As project leader Kirill Ilyin said, most of the items are distributed and transferred free of charge to social organizations (orphanages, nursing homes, organizations for people with disabilities, centers for helping the homeless).
Some of the items, also free of charge, are given to low-income families, refugees, and fire victims who have turned to the shop for help.
For especially generous residents of Irkutsk, the shop has a gift; children can choose a toy free of charge. The funds collected first go toward paying rent and utility bills. The remaining money is spent on various charitable and social purposes.
The “Island of Hope” shop is located at: Irkutsk, 14a Volzhskaya St., room 209. Hours: Mon-Fri from 10:00 to 18:30, Saturday from 11:00 to 17:00.
