The Information Communications Center Rating and the Sober Russia project presented the National Sobriety Rating, comparing Russian regions by alcoholization level. Our region was rated unsatisfactory.

The Center for Information Communications “Rating,” together with the project “Sober Russia,” compiled a “National Sobriety Rating.” It compared the constituent entities of the Russian Federation by the degree of alcohol consumption. Our region was included in the category of regions where “the anti-alcohol campaign cannot be called satisfactory.”
43 constituent entities, scoring from 130 to 250 points, were combined into one rating group. In these regions, the effects of alcohol abuse “pose a threat to the health and safety of citizens.
The least-drinking were the Chechen Republic, the Republics of Ingushetia and Dagestan, and the most intoxicated were the Jewish Autonomous Region, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, and Magadan Region.
The rating was calculated on the basis of six indicators: the number of people suffering from alcoholism and alcoholic psychoses, the strength of anti-alcohol legislation, the volume of vodka sales, the volume of beer sales, mortality from alcohol poisoning, and crimes committed under the influence of alcohol. According to the study scale, each region could receive from zero to 600 points — up to 100 for each indicator.
— As criteria for compiling the National Sobriety Rating, we used not one, but six indicators at once, which is dictated by the complexity and multifactorial nature of the problem. Thus, the National Sobriety Rating addresses all the pain points of this problem, — explains Ekaterina Lyulchak, head of special projects at CIC “Rating.”
