In Irkutsk, preparations have begun for the annual contest for the best festive decoration of facades, shop windows and sales halls. Authorities urge businesses not only to decorate buildings and shops for New Year, but also to tidy nearby areas, especially ahead of the citys 355th anniversary, which will be the Year of Irkutsk.

The city administration is holding its annual competition, “Festive Decoration of Facades, Shop Windows, and Sales Floors.” The issues of preparing for and holding the competition were discussed at a meeting with the participation of heads of organizations located in the Pravoberezhny District, as well as enterprises in trade, public catering, consumer services, shopping centers, and retail markets of the city.
As reported by Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Committee for Urban Development of the Irkutsk Administration Yevgeny Drokov, next year Irkutsk will celebrate an anniversary — 355 years since its founding. In this regard, 2016 has been declared the Year of Irkutsk. Heads of organizations were recommended to use anniversary symbols in their decorations. The meeting participants were presented with the concept for the city’s New Year decoration, developed by the MBU “Holiday.” Yevgeny Drokov also emphasized that an integral part of preparing for the New Year is ensuring not only the proper appearance of enterprises, but also the sanitary condition of adjacent areas: no ice, no snow, and cleanliness of container sites.
- The holiday in the city begins with order. Let’s bring it to our own territory, decorate buildings and shop windows so that we can welcome the New Year, the year of Irkutsk’s anniversary, with dignity, he said.
As noted by Acting Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Consumer Market Development Natalya Sizykh, trade, public catering, and consumer service enterprises are recommended to diversify their assortment with New Year-themed goods, ensure festive decoration of sales areas, set up fir trees, organize sales of New Year toys, garlands, tinsel, Christmas trees, etc. From December 24 to December 31, these enterprises will extend their opening hours.
