Background: Denis Leonidovich Matsuev is a Russian virtuoso pianist and music public figure. People’s Artist of the Russian Federation (2011). Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation (2009). Denis was born in Irkutsk in 1975 into a musical family. Matsuev gained wide recognition after winning the 11th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1998; the artist was 23 years old at the time. His performance drew worldwide attention. In the 21st century, Matsuev is one of the most popular pianists of our time, combining his own innovation and the traditions of the Russian piano school in his musical works.
