In the Oktyabrsky District Court of Irkutsk, the third hearing is underway in the fatal Baikalskaya crash case, in which two men died. Charges were brought against Yulia Kiseleva, daughter of an Irkutsk Duma deputy. Her ex husband has already testified, and the court upheld the arrest decision.
Today, December 17, at 10:00 a.m., the third court hearing in the Baikalskaya traffic accident case, in which two people were killed, is taking place at the Oktyabrsky District Court of Irkutsk. Charges have been brought against the daughter of Irkutsk City Duma deputy Yulia Kiseleva. As a reminder, the previous hearing was held on December 10. Kiseleva’s ex-husband testified at the court hearing as a witness. He said that he spoke with his ex-wife through the car window; at that moment, another man was in the car, someone he had known since school. After the conversation, the defendant drove away and a few minutes later was involved in a traffic accident in which two men were killed.
It was previously reported that on the night of July 27 this year, an accident occurred at the intersection of Baikalskaya and Piskunova streets in Irkutsk. Investigators established that the female driver struck a Toyota Highlander SUV that was stopped at a red light, and after the impact it collided with two other cars. As a result of the accident, the driver and passenger of the SUV died from their injuries.
At the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz was the daughter of City Duma deputy Zhanna Eseva and the chief physician of City Clinical Hospital No. 10 Sergei Esev. In this accident, the head of the criminal investigation department of Police Department No. 4 of the Irkutsk police, Albert Sokolov, and construction company head Denis Matveev were killed.
On July 29, Zhanna Eseva, a deputy of the Irkutsk City Duma for electoral district No. 5, resigned her powers, explaining that this was due to “tragic events.” However, on October 7, a day before the city duma was to consider this statement, she withdrew the document, regaining her deputy mandate.
“I am a mother, and I will help my daughter in this difficult situation, but I do not accept speculation that my status as a deputy could hinder an objective and fair investigation,” she emphasized.
On August 7, by decision of the Oktyabrsky District Court, Kiseleva was arrested for two months. Soon, the lawyers of the alleged culprit in the fatal accident filed an appeal with the Irkutsk Regional Court against the Oktyabrsky District Court’s decision to remand her in custody. The human rights advocates justified the appeal by saying that Yulia had serious injuries and needed treatment. The Irkutsk Regional Court upheld the Oktyabrsky District Court’s decision to remand the alleged culprit in the accident in custody.
At present, Yulia Kiseleva is being held in pretrial detention center No. 1. She is accused of committing an offense under Part 6 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules committed by a person in a state of intoxication, negligently causing the death of two persons). She could face up to 9 years in prison.
