On December 24 at 11:00, the “HAPPY NEW YEAR, BLOOD SERVICE!” campaign will take place in Irkutsk. The purpose of this event is to attract as many Irkutsk residents as possible to the issue of blood donation. And, of course, to replenish the blood donation reserves for the New Year holidays.
According to the Blood Service, it is during the holidays that the number of traffic accidents, fires, and serious injuries increases. The need for donated blood rises sharply, while the number of donors, on the contrary, decreases. To avoid shortages and provide timely assistance to everyone in need, medical institutions try to build up a “strategic reserve” in advance.
You must bring your passport with you, 18+. Blood Service hours: every day except Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Recommendations:
The day before and on the day of blood donation, it is not advisable to consume fatty, fried, spicy, or smoked foods, dairy products, eggs, butter, chocolate, and dates. You do not need to donate blood on an empty stomach!
In the morning, you may drink sweet tea, fruit drinks, compotes, mineral water, and eat bread, crackers, hardtack, boiled grains, pasta cooked in water without butter, vegetables, and fruits, except bananas.
48 hours before visiting the blood center, you must not consume alcohol, and for 72 hours you must not take medications containing aspirin and analgesics. Also, one hour before donating blood, you should refrain from smoking.
For the safety of donation, it is also important to follow the rules established by medical professionals. Thus, men may donate blood no more than 5 times a year, women — no more than 4.
