In Irkutsk from December 22 to January 7, alcohol sales in shops near New Year and Christmas event sites will be restricted. The most restrictions will be in Kirov Square, where the ban will apply at the citys main Christmas tree opening, during Ded Morozs residence, on New Years Eve and Christmas. Several other sites in different districts are also included, where alcohol sales will be banned at set hours.

As reported by the Department of Entrepreneurship and Consumer Market Development of the Committee for Municipal Property Management of the Irkutsk City Administration, from December 22 of the current year to January 7, 2016, the sale of alcohol will be restricted in retail outlets located at venues for cultural and mass events.
The city administration has approved a plan for holding cultural and mass events dedicated to the celebration of New Year and Christmas, according to which the places and times for restricting the sale of alcoholic beverages have been determined, the press service of the Irkutsk City Administration reports.
The largest number of restrictions will be in the area of Kirov Square.
Here, the ban on the sale of alcohol will be in effect on December 25 — the day the city’s main Christmas tree is opened — from 17:00 to 21:00. The ban also applies during the operation of Father Frost’s residence — from December 26 to January 7, from 10:00 to 20:00. During the same period, the festival of New Year’s trees, festive events on New Year’s Eve, and on Christmas Day will take place in the city’s central square.
In addition, the restriction on the sale of alcoholic products will also affect the following retail outlets:
December 22 - from 17:00 to 19:00 within a 100-meter radius of the Europark shopping center (Novo-Lenino);
December 24 - from 14:00 to 16:00 within the boundaries of the OGAUK Irkutsk City Musical Theater named after N.M. Zagursky (Oktyabrsky District) and from 18:00 to 20:00 in the area of the Fortuna shopping center (Right-Bank District);
December 26 - from 13:00 to 15:00 within the area of houses 22 and 24 on Akademicheskaya Street (Sverdlovsky District);
December 31 within the boundaries of the Irkut-Zenit stadium from 20:00 to 24:00.
