In Thailand, a 36 year old man from Irkutsk was detained after hiding from law enforcement for years over a major fraud case. He took an 18 million ruble loan using fake documents, then fled and was put on international wanted list. He is now in a Bangkok detention center and will soon be extradited to Irkutsk region.

The Irkutsk Interpol Bureau, together with colleagues from the Kingdom of Thailand, detained a 36-year-old man from Irkutsk who is accused of committing fraud on an especially large scale.
For several years, the man had been evading law enforcement agencies. Before that, he had submitted forged documents to one of the Irkutsk banks and received a loan of 18 million rubles.
On the fact of the fraud, Investigative Committee officers opened a criminal case. The court imposed a travel restriction measure on the suspect in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
But the man left the region, after which he was first placed on the federal wanted list and then on the international wanted list. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Angara Region.
Law enforcement officers found that the wanted man was hiding in one of the countries of Southeast Asia, moving through the territory of China, Laos, and Cambodia.
Officers of the NCB Interpol of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Irkutsk Region established that the fraudster was living in the city of Pattaya.
Information about his whereabouts was sent to the law enforcement agencies of the foreign state, after which he was taken to the local police department.
At present, the detainee has been placed in the temporary detention facility of Bangkok immigration police. He will be extradited to the Irkutsk Region in the near future.
