The fire damaged the engine compartment and interior, but there were no injuries. Police are now conducting search operations to identify and detain those involved.
Irkutsk law enforcement officers are determining the circumstances of a vehicle fire. As a reminder, the incident occurred on the night of December 25 to 26 on Baikalskaya Street in the courtyard of building No. 99.The duty unit of the Intermunicipal Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs “Irkutskoye” was informed that a “Mercedes” was burning on Baikalskaya Street. The fire damaged combustible parts of the engine compartment and the interior of the Mercedes over a total area of 5 square meters. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
An investigative-operational team went to the scene and carried out a thorough inspection. Criminal investigation officers conducted door-to-door visits to residents in order to establish the details of what happened.
The preliminary cause of the fire is arson, according to specialists. The necessary set of operational-search measures is now being carried out to identify and detain the perpetrators.
As a reminder, over 10 months of 2015, more than 110 car fires occurred in the regional center, accounting for 30% of the total number across the entire region.
