A hockey rink has opened on Postysheva Street in Irkutsk. As reported by the city administration press service, the rink, which is on the balance sheet of School No. 27, had not been used since 2013 because of its poor condition. In 2015, the rink was finally restored as part of a public-private partnership.
The hockey rink had its fencing with netting restored, and a place for rest and changing was equipped. At the request of residents of the neighborhood, the rink will be used for snow football. A friendly match of Russian street hockey was held at the new venue among students in grades 6-7.
- The opening of the rink is, first and foremost, a gift for the kids! I myself do sports, I play hockey, and I know how important it is when you have the opportunity to go out with a stick within walking distance from home. There are currently about 100 rinks operating in the city, and next year we will continue working in this direction, - Mayor Dmitry Berdnikov said.
