The oldest bridge over the Angara in Irkutsk (Glazkovsky) needs major repairs. But this will only be possible after the reconstruction of the overpass on Dzhambula Street, which has been postponed to 2017.
“The possibility of reconstructing the overpass on Dzhambula with the involvement of funds from the federal, regional, and city budgets will be considered no earlier than 2017 due to a lack of financing,” the Irkutsk city administration press service said.
The statement also says that the project for the major repair of the Glazkovsky Bridge was developed by IrkutskgiprodorNII back in 2007. But at present it needs to be revised, the cost of which the designer estimated at 47 million rubles. The major repair of Irkutsk’s oldest bridge itself will require 1.5 billion rubles.
Reference: The Glazkovsky Bridge (until 2011 it was called the Old Angara Bridge) is a bridge over the Angara River connecting the Pravoberezhny and Sverdlovsky districts of Irkutsk. It was built in 1931–1936 as a monument to V.I. Lenin. On the right bank of the Angara, the bridge has exits to Chkalov and Stepan Razin streets; on the left, to Irkutnaya, Dzhambula, Mayakovsky, and Chelnokov streets. Since its opening, the bridge has undergone only routine repairs. According to specialists, the bridge, especially its metal structures, needs major repairs.
